Alex ?Lee? Brooks of Asbury, WV, formerly of Pence Springs, Baltimore, MD and West Palm Beach, FL passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013 following a long illness of black lung.
Lee was born June 16, 1939 at Alderson, WV. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Griffith Creek Baptist Church near Alderson.
Lee retired from Vecellio and Grogan Inc. in Beckley after many years of service as a heavy equipment operator. He was a former member of the United Steel Workers Union and the U.M.W.A Union, Districts 17 and 29. He was a U.S. Army Veteran stationed at Fort Lesley J. McNair, Washington, D.C. - Hq Co USA Gar (7021) HDW and held the rank of SP4. Lee serviced his country which he dearly loved from 1962 to 1964 during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post 0200 and a former Assistant Fire Chief for about 17 years with the Talcott Volunteer Fire Department.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Marlin ?Kid George? Brooks in 1987 and Ronald Brooks in 1994 and a sister-in-law, Barbara Brooks in 2003.
Survivors include one grandson which he loved and was crazy about, ?PaPa?s Little Man?, Jarrod Piner of Roanoke, VA; three brothers, Ray Brooks of Beckley, Jerry Brooks of Alderson and Paul Brooks of Asbury; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. He was also survived by special friends: Delmore Highlander and Tom Burns, and caregiver, Faye Carter.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Griffiths Creek Baptist Chapel with Pastor Randy Burdette officiating. Burial will follow in the Fletcher Cemetery at Alderson. Friends may call Friday from 6-9 P.M. at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors.
Pallbearers will be David Carter, Hoppie Hopkins, Roger Harris, Tom Burns, Sheldon Carter, Little Sheldon Carter, and Leonard Carter will serve as honorary pallbearers.
