Alfred â??Byrdâ?? Keatley, 76, of Pence Springs, died Saturday, December 15, 2007 at the Bowers Hospice House, Beckley following a short illness. Born May 10, 1931 at Summers Co. he was the son of the late Earl and Cleo Keatley of Pence Springs. During his lifetime he worked at many occupations with his last being when he was co owner and operator of the Country Roads Store at Pence Springs where he was famous for his â??Byrd Dogsâ??. He was also an avid golfer. Preceded in death by his wife, Novagene Sherwood Keatley, four brothers and one sister. Survivors include his son, Michael Keatley and wife Teresa, of Rupert; his daughter, Deborah Sherwood and husband John, of Hinton; four grandchildren, Caitlyn, Tyler, Chrissy and Shawn; one brother, George Keatley, of Chesapeake, VA; two sisters, Patty Houston and husband Bob, of Pittsboro, NC and Eleanor Persinger and husband Leonard of Clayton. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at the Pence Springs Community Church with Pastors Robbie Merritt and Roger Persinger officiating. Burial will follow in the Haven of Rest Cemetery at Pence Springs.Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. on Monday December 17, 2007 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors, Hinton and at the church one hour prior to service time on Tuesday. Jeffrey, Eric, and Leslie Persinger, Justin and Mike Palmer and Alvin Garten will serve as pallbearers.
