Alvin Reed

Alvin Dennis Reed Sr., 80, of 116 Grace St., Hinton, died at 3:33 P.M. Monday at the VA Medical Center at Beckley, following a long illness. Born September 29, 1927 at Clayton, he was the son of the late Otis C and Grace Fox Reed. He was a lifelong resident of Summers Co., and a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. During his lifetime, Alvin had worked at many occupations. He had taught in a one room school, operated a saw mill, worked in an electronics store, and been a truck driver to mention a few. He had attended the Hinton Gospel Tabernacle and was a Christian. Preceded in death by one sister, Lyda Plumley and several nieces and nephews. Survived by his wife, Janeet Hicks Reed at home, seven sons; Alvin Dennis Reed Jr. and Bonnie Harrah of Hilldale, Ivan Darrell Reed and Diane Garten of Bellepoint, George Dale Reed and wife Martha of Hinton, Jerry Dallas Reed and wife Eula of Mt. Nebo, Jeremy Dewayne Reed and wife Josie, Washington Delvin Reed and Matthew Don Reed all of Hinton, four brothers; Owen Reed of Princeton, Jesse Reed of Lucasville, OH, Grover Reed and wife Jo Ann of Hix and Robert Reed and wife Deanna of Nimitz, four sisters; Ruth Richmond of Hix, Jewel Thompson and husband Tom of Ridgeville, OH, Lois Kincaid and husband Mick of Grafton, OH and June Wood and husband Paul of Crown City, OH, nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, one aunt; Patria Ellison of Hinton and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 29, 2008 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel. Burial will follow in the Oâ??Bryan Cemetery at Hix. Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
