Anna Marie Shanklin, 86, of Fairlea, formerly of Marie, died Monday, November 9, 2009 following a long illness.
Born August 10, 1923 at Hinton she was a daughter of the late Ed and Josie Meador Anderson. A member of the New Hope United Methodist Church, she formerly owned and operated Shanklin?s Store and she served as postmaster for the Marie Post Office. Mrs. Shanklin enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and she was the last surviving member of her family.
Preceded in death by her husband, F. Kyle Shanklin; one daughter, Janice Ann; three sisters, Nell Anderson, Hallie McCall and Georgia Gilpin; one brother, Buddy Anderson and one half brother, Bill Worrell.
Survived by one daughter, Karen K. Fitzpatrick and husband Herb of Falls Church, VA; one son, Gary Kyle Shanklin of Lewisburg; several grand children and great grand children.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Rev. Roy Gwinn officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery at Forest Hill. Friends may call from noon until service time on Wednesday.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to thank the residents, staff, numerous friends and especially the kind people on 500 hall at the Brier who visited and cared for Anna during her illness.
