Aldon Ray ?Archie? Phipps, 50, of Jumping Branch entered into eternal rest Sunday, July 3, 2011.
Born on April 15, 1961 at Columbus, Ohio he was a son of the late Aldon Ray Phipps and Joyce A. Wills Phipps of Nimitz.
He was of the Baptist faith and an Engineer for CSX-T, a past member and chairman of the UTU, a past member of the Jumping Branch Nimitz Volunteer Fire Department having held numerous positions; Assistant Chief and Secretary as well as being instrumental in obtaining numerous pieces of new equipment. Archie was one of the original committee members for Safety on the Blue, an excellent carpenter and helped many people throughout his life. He recently assisted with the maintenance and operation of Riverside Self Storage and was a volunteer for the boat patrol with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington Division. Archie served on the committee for the West Virginia Water Festival and the Disaster Relief Team for the American Red Cross.
Those left to cherish his memory include a daughter; Kimberly Bowles of Pipestem; a son, Jason Ray Phipps of Jumping Branch; five grandchildren, Blake, Bryson, Braeden, Hailey and Nevaeh; two sisters, Linda Diane Phipps of Ohio and Joyce Sue Sammons of Kansas and one brother, John Bradley Hall of Beckley.
Funeral services will be 1 PM Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Bill Fox officiating. Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Gardens in Hinton. Friends may call from 11 AM until time of services.
Serving as pallbearers will be members of the Jumping Branch Nimitz Volunteer Fire Department. Honorary pallbearers will be; Kent Bartgis, J.P. Reed, Joe Clinebell, Michael Cales and Mark Fox.
