Arthur Wilson Edwards, 84, of True died Thursday, September 1, 2011 at his home following a long illness.
Born September 1, 1927 at True, he was a son of the late Harden L. and Stella Canterbury Edwards.
During his life he worked as a farmer, coal miner, and mechanic. He shared a love for the great outdoors and enjoyed hunting and trapping. Arthur attended James Chapel United Methodist Church at True and was a friend to all that knew him. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather and neighbor.
Preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Violet Delores Shumate Edwards; one granddaughter, Chastity Hope Marcum; one grandson, Gary Arthur Edwards Jr.; five brothers, Chester, Junior, Carl, Elmo and Willie and a sister, Anna Pearl Albert.
Survived by his children, Violet Kesner and husband Michael of Middletown, VA, Gary Edwards and wife Mary of True, Phillip Edwards and wife Gladys of Bluefield, Kathy Kershmer and husband Jim of Indianapolis, IN, Janet Mines and husband Mike of True, Sharon Marcum Smithson and husband Jim of Burlington, NC, Charlene Williams Hardy of True, John Edwards and wife Ashley of Waynesboro, VA; twenty three grandchildren, thirty three great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; one brother, Estel Edwards and wife Bertha of Orlando, FL and three sisters, Alice Boring of Princeton, Betty Ellison of True and Stella Falvo of Princeton.
Funeral services will be held 1PM Monday, September 5, 2011 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Rev. Roy Lee Honaker Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Edwards Family Cemetery at True. Friends may call at the funeral parlors from 11AM until time of services Monday.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
