Artie Franklin Adkins, 87, of True went home to be with the Lord Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Princeton Community Hospital following a long illness.
Born November 27, 1935 at Jonben he was a son of the late Henry G. and Ruth Sexton Adkins and stepmother, Edra Wills Adkins.
Artie was a coalminer and was the first person to pass through the East River Mountain Tunnel. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially working in his garden, attending church and spending time with family and friends.
Artie was preceded in death by four brothers, William Ray Adkins, Dan Adkins, Charlie Adkins and Roger Adkins and four sisters, Judy Lilly, Connie Woodrum, Twilla Freeman and Carolyn Sherwood.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Margaret Epperly Adkins at home; son, Eddie Adkins of True; daughter, Anita Hatcher and husband Chris of Princeton; two grandsons Bryan Hatcher and Shawn Hatcher of Princeton; three brothers, Cleatis Adkins and wife Sue Ellen of Hilldale, James Adkins of Hilldale and David Adkins and wife Julie of Hilldale; sister, Melda Phillips of Lerona and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be 12:00 P.M. Monday, June 19, 2023 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Rev. David Damewood and Matthew Trail officiating. Burial will follow in the Wynn Houchins Cemetery at True. Friends may call from 10:30 A.M. until time of services on Monday at the funeral parlors. Pallbearers will be David Adkins, James Adkins, Jim Faris, Justin Faris, Bryan Hatcher and Shawn Hatcher.
