Barbara “June” Brunty, 75, of Pence Springs passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024 at Specialty Select Hospital following a long illness.
Born January 17, 1949 at Oceana she was a daughter of the late Weldon “Bub” and Edith Gunter Stewart.
June was a former counselor for the Federal Corrections Institute in Beckley, and a member of Tempa Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing in local gospel groups with the Stewart Family, Day Star and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by one great grandchild, Samuel Brown; two sisters, Sheila McMillion and Sandy Brunty; one brother, Harvard “Pete” Stewart.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Davis Brunty of Pence Springs; one daughter, Elizabeth “Sam” Stewart of Jacksonville, FL; one son, Robert “Keith” Heaton and fiancé Alice Martin of Hungards Creek; grandchildren, Jennifer Wynes and husband Trey of Jacksonville, FL, Timothy K. Wynes and special friend Candi Young of Forest Hill, Kirsten Heaton and fiancé Ethan Vandal of Pence Springs and Skyler Giese and fiancé Lane Haynes of Ronceverte; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Jefferey Stewart and wife Shirley of Pence Springs; sister in law, Sharon Stewart of Pence Springs; special nieces, Billie Tolliver, Juanita Wimmer and husband John, Janet Mize and husband John; special nephew, John Brunty and wife Jennifer, and a host of other nieces and nephews.
At June’s request there will be no services at this time and her wishes were to be cremated. There will be a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. Donations of sympathy may be made to Walk for Her Lifetime or ones breast cancer awareness charity of choice.
