Basil Garten

Basil Lee Garten, 56, of Hinton, died Sunday, February 11, 2007 at the Summers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Hilldale, following a long illness. Born April 12, 1950 at Brooks, he was the son of the late Powell and Lorene Bragg Garten. Basil was a 1969 Graduate of Hinton High School, a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Viet Nam Conflict and was a member of the First Christian Church of Hinton. He worked as a restaurant manager for most of his life and was a Licensed Practical Nurse. Survived by three daughters; Jennifer Slaughter and Andrea Thornsbury both of Scottsdale, AZ and Donna Jean Garten of Jeremiah, KY, one brother; Gary Garten of Hinton and Shirley of Barboursville, WV, four grandchildren; Gabriel, Cassie, Katie and Zack. At his request, his body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
