Benny Paul Ellison, 83, of Nimitz, died Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at his home following a long illness.
Born April 11, 1931 at Jumping Branch, Benny was the son of William McKinley "Mack" Ellison and West Virginia "Wessie" Lilly Ellison. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three older siblings: sister, Elizabeth "Libby" Lilly, sister, Vera Ellison and brother, Arlie Ellison.
Benny retired as a conductor from the C&O Railroad and Amtrak with 40 years of service. He was also a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War, serving as a medic with a MASH unit from 1952-1954.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Regina Keaton Ellison; four children: Lisa (Kirby) Bragg, Lois (Terry) Harvey, Jonathan (Michelle) Ellison all of Nimitz and Sherry Foster of Hinton; four grandchildren: Joshua Dobbins of Victoria, TX, Stacy Dobbins Heasley of Shady Spring, Benjamin and Seth Bragg of Nimitz; six great-grandchildren: Isaiah Dobbins, Eliana Dobbins, Addisyn Heasley, Elisabeth Heasley, Ben and Noah Bragg.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Sunday, March 8, 2015 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Donald Hannah officiating. Burial will follow at the Lilly-Crews Cemetery at Nimitz. Friends may call from 1:00 pm until service time on Sunday at the funeral parlors.
Mark Ellison, Matthew Ellison, Evan Ellison, Joshua Dobbins, Benjamin and Seth Bragg will serve as pallbearers.
Lifelong friend and neighbor Bill Thompson and first cousin Buford Meador will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The Ellison family wishes to express its deep gratitude to Dr. and Mrs. Stan Day.
