Betty Lou Lilly Whitlock, 81, passed away unexpectedly at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Thomas and Jeanie Whitlock, in Streetsboro, Ohio on August 25, 2010.
Mrs. Whitlock was born on September 28, 1928 in Hinton, WV, to the late Lula (Maddy) and Fred Lilly. She was the granddaughter of the late Benjamin F. and Electra P. Maddy and Naaman and Sarah (Crook) Lilly.
Mrs. Whitlock lived her entire life in Hinton, WV, where she taught school for 33 years. She was a graduate of Hinton High School, Concord College, and West Virginia University where she received her Master?s Degree in Home Economics. While at Concord College, she was the founding member of her sorority.
Mrs. Whitlock taught at Talcott High School, Sandstone High School and Hinton High School. She attended the First Baptist Church in Hinton. She was a member of the Women?s Club of Hinton, and the Retired Teachers Association. She led the Future Homemakers of America (FHA), while at Sandstone High School. She was also in charge of the lunch programs at Standstone and Hinton high schools.
Mrs. Whitlock was a devoted teacher and much loved by her former students. She was invited to attend many of their class reunions.
Mrs. Whitlock attended the Lilly Family Reunion on August 14, 2010, which is recognized as the largest family reunion by the Guinness Book of World Records as of 2009.
Her loving husband of 62 years, Lloyd M. Whitlock and her brother, Frank R. Lilly of Hinton, preceded Mrs. Whitlock in death.
Mrs. Whitlock is survived by her son, Dr. Thomas Whitlock, D.O., and daughter-in-law, Jeanie, of Streetsboro, OH, brother-in-law W. Lee Whitlock and wife Alta of El Cajon, CA and sister-in-law, Norma Ree Jennings of Sun Lakes, AZ, four grandchildren: Debi Talkington and husband Dave; Rick Shultz; Gary Shultz and wife Rhonda; Julie Balliette and husband Kirk and seven great-grandchildren: Ashley Brothers and husband Jeremy; Samantha Bonsignour and husband Sal; Jenna Shultz, Brandon Talkington, Sunny, Lindsey and Cameron Balliette.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastors Roy L. Honaker Jr. and Ronald L. Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery near Hinton. Friends may call from 5-8 P.M. on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at the funeral parlors.
Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
