Billy E. Thomas, 81, of Forest Hill went home to be with the Lord April, 8, 2011 in the Summers Co. Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.
Born April 28, 1929 at Alderson, he was a son of the late Fred and Alma Coleman Thomas.
He is preceded in death by three brothers; Ballard, Bernard and Henry Thomas; two sisters, Beatrice Thompson and Phyllis Carter.
Billy retired from the C&O Railroad December 21, 1985 as a conductor and was a member of the United Transportation Union. He was a member and trustee of the Roles Chapel Baptist Church of Seminole Road for many years and loved his country, having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, 11 months and 20 days, Ruth R. Thomas at home; one son, Jeffrey Thomas and wife Michelle; two grandsons, Jeffrey J. and Everett Thomas and one granddaughter, Bailey Tuttle all of Ashley, IN; one great granddaughter, Kay Lynn Thomas of Garrett, IN; three brothers, Frank Thomas and wife Carol of Princeton, Allen Thomas and wife Sue of Alderson and Owen Thomas of Oberlin, OH; three sisters, Betty Taylor of Lorain, OH, Bonnie Roy of Ravenswood, Ella Steeps of Alderson and two special friends, Charlie and Matthew Cox of Forest Hill.
Funeral services will be 12:00 PM Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at the Roles Chapel Baptist Church with Pastors Robbie Merritt, Jeff Canterbury and Tommy Mounts officiating. Burial will follow in the Roles Chapel Church Cemetery. Friends may call 6-9 PM Monday, April 11, 2011 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors in Hinton and one hour prior to services at the church. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers donations of sympathy may be made to the Roles Chapel Youth Fund at HC 65 Box 78, Forest Hill, WV 24935.
