Cecil Okes

Cecil Ray Okes, 83, of Nimitz, formerly of Cleveland, OH, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, July 24, 2008 at the Rocking Chair Residential Care following a long illness. Born May 14, 1925 at Ellison, he was the son of the late Clarence and Elizabeth Wills Okes. Cecil was a member of the Nimitz Missionary Baptist Church, he enjoyed gardening and caring for his yard. He was retired from Ford Motor Co. and during his early working years he had worked construction. This included the initial phase of the Bluestone Dam Construction. Preceded in death by his wife, Wilma R. Hamrick Okes in 1994 and four brothers; Kermit, Clinton, Lonnie and Joseph â??Joeâ?? Okes. He is survived by one son; Edward Chrysler of IL, seven sisters; Alice Basham of Jumping Branch, Mary Dorsey of Ghent, Monnie Lilly of Cool Ridge, Kathryn Dameron of Piney View, Pansy Ellison and husband William of Hopewell, VA, Estelle Thompson and husband Bill of Nimitz, (with whom he had made his home for the past fourteen years) and Lula Belle Okes of Nimitz. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Don Hannah officiating. Burial will follow in the Okes Family Cemetery at Ellison. Friends may call at the funeral parlors from 6-9 P.M. Saturday. His nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to thank the Bluestone Care Home and the Rockin Chair Residential Care for their continual care of Cecil during his illness.
