Charles Holstein

Charles Edwin Holstein Sr., 91, of Hopewell, VA died Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the Riverview Rehab and Nursing Center in Hopewell, VA.
Born June 23, 1922 at Arbuckle, Mason County, he was the son of the late Frederick Brooks and Mary Tillis Holstein.
Charles was a member of the Nimitz Missionary Baptist Church where he served many years as a trustee. Prior to that, he served many years as a trustee at Leon Baptist Church in Mason County. He was a devoted Bible Reader having completed reading the bible ninety-five times in November 2013. His desire was to read it one hundred times before he went to be with the Lord.
Charles retired as a train dispatcher from Conrail Railroad on July 1, 1982 in Charleston with forty years of service. His retirement years were joyful years of gardening and mowing grass.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Sheeran and Anna Matthews and three brothers, Rudolph, Gilbert and Bill Holstein.
He is survived by his wife of forty years, Lois Lilly Holstein of Hopewell, VA; three sons, Charlie Jr. and wife Jane of Palm Bay, FL, Brooks and wife Jenny of Rockport, IN and Jeff and wife Toni of Pt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren, who will remember him as Papa, J.D. Holstein and wife, Molly, Mitch Holstein and wife Missy, Craig Holstein, Missy Slone and husband Donnie, Casey Sears and husband Wes, Chris Holstein and wife Lyren and Heather Schulte and husband Rob and fifteen great-grandchildren, Miles, Mason, Merit, Tucker, Cooper, Carly, Cameron, Logan, Abby, Jackson, Sophie, Ellie, Molly, Tate and Amelia.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM at the Nimitz Missionary Baptist Church at Nimitz on Saturday, February 1, 2014 with Pastor Don Hannah officiating. Burial will follow in the Lilly-Cox Cemetery at Ellison. Family and friends may call from 11:00 AM until time of services at the church.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Nimitz Missionary Baptist Church.
