Charles Johnson

Charles ?C.B.? Basil Johnson, 69, of Pence Springs formerly of Newport News, VA died peacefully at his home Monday, April 18, 2011 following a long illness.
Born August 4, 1941 at Huntington he was the son of the late Basil G. and Lillian Pearl Kounse Johnson. A member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church at Alderson and a former member of Calvary Baptist Church of Newport News, VA, he had worked as a pipefitter in Newport News Shipbuilding, a truck driver for Old Dominion Freightlines and retired from CSX Transportation after 24 years of service as a conductor. He was an avid reader who enjoyed model railroading, stamp collecting and bluegrass music but Charles most of all loved spending time with his family.
Preceded in death by one grandson, Alexander Ray Palmer.
Survived by his wife, Karen T. Johnson of Pence Springs; five children, Dreama ?Missy? Johnson of Newport News, VA, Charles ?Buddy? Basil Johnson II and wife Lisa of Newport News, VA, Julia Wainright of Newport News, VA, Laurie Palmer and husband Mike of Pence Springs and Dawn Taylor and husband Brian of Jumping Branch; six grandchildren, Courtney Sickafoose and husband Nathan of Newport News, VA, Charles ?Chas? Johnson III of Newport News, VA, Bethany Zoll and husband Dave of Gloucester, VA, Justin and Emma Jo Palmer of Pence Springs and George Christopher Taylor of Jumping Branch; five great grandchildren and his mother-in-law, Marguerite ?Peg? Trueman of St. Rose, LA.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Pence Springs Community Church with Rev. Annette Carper and Pastor Roger Persinger officiating. Burial will follow in the Haven of Rest Cemetery at Pence Springs. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors of Hinton and one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the Church.
Chas Johnson, Nathan Sickafoose, Mike and Justin Palmer, Brian and Chris Taylor, Dave Zoll and Randy Auvil will serve as pallbearers.
