Charles Neely

Charles Joseph Neely, 86, of Pipestem, went home to be with the Lord, Monday morning March 3, 2008 at the Summers Co. Appalachian Regional Hospital at Hinton. Born May 3, 1921 at Ronceverte, he was the son of the late Sweeny and Mary Sue Bowden Neely. Mr. Neely had lived most of his life in Summers Co., he had worked the early part of his life in the timber industry, later working for the West Virginia Department of Transportation during construction on the WV Turnpike. An injury sustained from this work left him permanently disabled. Charles served his community as an elected member of the Summers Co. Board of Education and on the Silver Haired Legislature. He also served as Elder of the Greenbrier Primitive Baptist Church and Zion Primitive Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. He continued to attend the Greenbrier Primitive Baptist Church, now known as Pipestem Southern Baptist Church. Preceded in death by four sisters; Louise Meadows, Phyllis Hogan, Marjorie McGraw and Joy McGraw and two brothers; Ralph and Robert Neely. Survived by his wife; Jessie Neely at home, one daughter; Judy Jewell and husband Jerry of Greensboro, NC, two grandchildren; Joseph Jewell and wife Amy of Banner Elk, NC and Bethany Jewell Miller and husband Andy of Savannah, GA, two great grandchildren; Kia and Serena Miller of Savannah, GA and one brother Norman â??Jackâ?? Neely of Cincinnati, OH. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Pipestem Southern Baptist Church on Pipestem Creek with Pastors Roy Carter and Dan Jividen officiating. Burial will be in the Rocky Mount Cemetery at a later time. Friends may call at the Church from 5 P.M. until service time on Wednesday.
