Charles (Jeff) Ramsey, 89, Torch, Ohio passed away into the arms of God on Saturday, March 15, 2014.
He was born in Forest Hill, West Virginia, to Hobert and Nannie Ramsey, on March 13, 1925. He was the first of seven children. At the age of 17 he entered the U.S. Navy and is a World War II veteran. He served on the U.S Terror in the Pacific Ocean. On May 1st, 1945, his ship was hit by a Japanese fighter plane. After the war he began his career in the heavy construction industry building locks, dams, and bridges. He retired from the Dravo Corporation after 41 years of working on major water projects in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, New Jersey, and Georgia. He started his career as a laborer and retired as a Project Superintendent for a multi-million dollar project on the Mississippi River.
He was a member of the Torch Baptist Church, Torch, OH and was a Mason for over 50 years.
Jeff was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. For the last 9 years he was a devoted care provider to his wife during her illness.
He is preceded in death by his son, Larry; his parents, Hobert and Nannie Ramsey; two brothers, Jim and Siebert; two sister-in-laws, Marilyn and Penny; and one brother-in-law, Bill Thomas.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-seven years, Joyce; his son, Garry (Teresa) of Louisville, KY; three grandsons, Eric (Traci) of Phoenix, AZ, Todd (Christie) of Louisville, KY, and Nathan of Greensboro, NC; four great grandchildren, Brooke and Madison of Louisville, KY and Jackson and Lindsi of Phoenix, AZ; two daughter-in-laws, Beverly of Fayetteville, NC and Sarita Lynch ( David) of Louisville, KY; three brothers, Leon (Ann) of Churubesco, IN, Richard of Dublin, VA, Ronald (Marion) of Columbus, OH; a sister, Ruth Thomas of Forest Hill, WV; a sister-in-law, Faye of Peterstown, WV; and many nephews and nieces. He is loved by many and will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be 1:00pm at the Roles Chapel Baptist Church, Forest Hill, WV on Saturday, March 22, 2014 with Pastors Larry Fergurson, Ronald Cobb and Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Roles Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday at the church from 11:00am until service time.
A celebration of Jeff's life will be held on April 5, 2014 at 10:00am at the Arcadia Valley Nursing Home, Coolville, OH and at 1:00pm at the Torch Baptist Church, Fellowship Hall, Torch , OH. We ask that you come ready to celebrate a man who showed so many of us the importance and the impact of a life well lived and loved.
