Clarence E. Slatton, Jr., 72, of Barger Springs, West Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Bowers Hospice House (Beckley, West Virginia) following a long illness.
Born on November 17, 1940, in Warrior, Alabama. He was the son of the late Clarence E. Slatton, Sr., and Clarabelle Simmons McAlpine Slatton Greene.
Mr. Slatton was employed by the WV DNR as a Fire Warden in Wyoming County, a car salesman, and a real estate salesman. He also served his community as a Notary Public for 35 years. He enjoyed listening to Bluegrass music, camping, fishing, and living life to the fullest.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul McAlpine and Chester McAlpine, and two sisters, Willadene McAlpine Stewart and Josephine Slatton Stewart.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Carol Sue Bragg Slatton of Barger Springs, West Virginia, and two sons, Tim Slatton (Ann) of Forest Hill, West Virginia, Ricky Lee Slatton (Kathy) of Lindside, West Virginia, and one daughter, Clara Slatton Mitchell of Hilldale, West Virginia.
He is also survived by one granddaughter, Yvonne Slatton, and six grandsons, Anthony Slatton (Laura), Brandon Mitchell (Carrie), Ricky Ray Slatton, Bradley Mitchell, Steven Slatton (Sarah), and Jessy Slatton (Alisha); one brother, Joseph McAlpine, two sisters, Magdalene McAlpine Stewart, and Geraldine Slatton Maag (Bill); nine great grandsons and one great granddaughter; his extended family in Alabama and the Deep South; and a special friend, Johnny Mack Brown.
In keeping with his wishes, he has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
