Claude Curtis â??Luckyâ?? Mann, 62, departed this life September 14, 2008 at 3:15 P.M. at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness. Born June 18, 1946 at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va and was the son of the late Ryland and Mildred Pate Mann. He was of the Baptist Faith and had attended the Maranatha Baptist Church in Princeton, WV. Lucky attended Richmond area schools and later served in the U.S. Army, with a tour of duty in Vietnam from February 1969 to February 1970. After serving his country, he resumed his position of employment with the Phillip Morris Company in Richmond, Va; retiring with 31 years of service. Preceded in death by his younger brother, Michael Folland, who lost his life in Vietnam and his older brother, Hubert L. â??Sonnyâ?? Pate. He is survived by his sister-in-law and caregiver, Ginger Pate of Pipestem with whom he made his home; one nephew, Steve Sears and wife Daphne of Bluefield, Va.; a great nephew, David Michael Patrick of Pipestem, whom he loved as his son; two nieces, Susan Powell Lane of Pipestem and Michelle Pate Gibson and husband Claude of King George, Va.; five great nieces, Ginny Powell Henderson and husband Joshua and Tori Powell, both of Pipestem, Hanna and Sarah Gibson of King George, Va., and Cyann Shaffer of Bluefield, WV; two great nephews, Jarred Shaffer and Ian Shaffer of Bluefield, WV; one great great nephew, Joshua Owen Henderson of Pipestem and two dear friends, Stella and Allen Hume Jr. both of Richmond, Va. He was a very kind and humble man who loved his family and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Wallace Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Hilltop Cemetery near Hinton. Friends may call at the funeral parlors from 9:00 A.M. until funeral time on Wednesday. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
