Clifford Lee Tinsley, 72, of Athens went home to be with the Lord Friday, November 3, 2017 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center following a long illness.
Born April 27, 1945 at New London, CT he was a son of the late David Packett and Jonnie Helen Stalnaker Tinsley
Clifford attended Cooks Chapel at Pipestem. He was a member of the Concord Masonic Lodge #48 and the Scottish Rite of Masonry 320 as well as the Eastern Star. He was a Vietnam Veteran of the US Navy having served as a member of an underwater demolition team and a Navy seal team. Clifford worked as a certified electrician and an elevator mechanic in the coal mines and was an over the road truck driver. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Clifford was preceded in death by a special aunt, Alice C. Smith; grandmother, Mabel G. Tinsley; brother in law, Bobby D. Hatcher and father and mother in law, Doc and Mildred Hatcher.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 50 years, Mary E. Tinsley at home; children, Mary V. (Eugene) Hicks of Beckley, Clifford L. (Marcy) Tinsley II of PA, Robin M. (David) Rutherford of Athens, Jason S. Tinsley of Athens and Jeremy S. Tinsley of Athens; grandchildren, Jacob, Nikki, Luke, Beverly, Andrew, Megan and Alex and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Cooks Chapel Baptist Church with Pastor Dallas Peyton Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Lilly-Crews Cemetery at Nimitz. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until time of services Wednesday at the church.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
