Daniel Boyer

Daniel Saylor Boyer, 94 of Beaver, died October 9, 2012 at the Villages of Greystone.
Formerly a resident of Freezeland Mountain, he was born near Big Pool, Washington County, Maryland on November 8, 1917 and was the son of the late Emma Grace Rowe Boyer and Daniel Peter Saylor Boyer. He was reared by his aunt and uncle, the late Ella Boyer McClain and John E. McClain.
Also preceded in death by his wife, Edith Farley Kelly Boyer; three brothers and one sister.
Those left to cherish his memory include his step-son, William ?Jackie? Kelly and wife Mary of Freezeland Mountain; four step-grandchildren, Michael Kelly, Daniel Kelly and wife Christine, Cheryl Kelly Steenson, Rachael Kelly Granger; eight step-great grandchildren, Danielle Kelly, William R. Kelly, Geoffrey Steenson, Jessica Steenson, Cpl. F. Steven Granger Jr. USMC, Ryan Granger, Randall Granger, Brandon Cain, Ashley Ellis and husband John; four step-great great grandchildren, Shane Sleap, Sydney Sleap, Patrick Chambers, Brystol Ellis; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Hudson and Ellen Neely and husband Jim.
Mr. Boyer graduated from Connelsville High School at Connelsville, PA and Allegheny College at Meadville, PA, then later attended Concord College and the University of Virginia.
He got his pilot and flight supervisors license in 1940 and came to the Princeton airport as CAA War Training Service Flight Supervisor, teaching and supervising the flight training of US Army Air Corps cadets stationed at Concord College during World War II. He later served in the US Army. When he ended his Army career he became a teacher and eventually retired as principal of the Richmond District School in Raleigh County.
Mr. Boyer attended and was baptized in the Brethern Church at Waynesboro, PA and per his request his body has been donated to the WV School of Osteopathic Medicine at Lewisburg, WV.
Memorial services will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors with Pastor Roy Carter officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Southern West Virginia Hospice, 456 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, WV 25801.
