Daniel Webster Thompson 89, of Jumping Branch died Thursday, May 15, 2008 at the Summers County Nursing and Rehab Center. Born November 4, 1918 at Jumping Branch, he was the son of the late William Franklin and Alberta Biola Plumley Thompson. Dan was a decorated veteran of the United States Army who served his country in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked as an auto body and radiator technician for many years at Garten Motors in Hinton and later at Grady Whitlock Ford retiring in 1981 after 24 years of service. A member of the Advent Christian Church in Beckley and he later attended the Little Log Church at Pluto and Grace Baptist Church at Nimitz. He loved to study the Bible, play piano, garden, bee hunt and care for his apiary of honey bees. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Ila Mae Harvey Thompson, four brothers, Delford, Russell, Woodrow and Florie, two sisters, Pauline and Bly; two half brothers, Archie and Nelson; two half sisters, Ethel and Lotus and his beloved dog Hunter. Survivors include two sons, Eddie Thompson of Staunton, VA and Danny Thompson and wife Drema of Graham, NC; four daughters, Evelyn Stone and husband Jerry of Christiansburg, VA, Carolyn Cartwright and husband Tom of Austin, TX, Betty Saunders and husband Steve of Cupertino, CA and Cathy Willey and husband Joe of Nimitz, WV; eleven grandchildren, Sherry, Sandy, Kelli, Kara, Nathan, Sean, Sam, Lance, Desirae, Paige and Todd; and eleven great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, David Thompson of Orlando, FL. Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Monday, May 19, 2008 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Jimmy Fitzpatrick officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Beckley. Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. on Sunday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors in Hinton. Family will serve as pallbearers.
