Daniel Ray Ward Sr., 51, of Hinton went home to be with the Lord, Sunday December 5, 2010 at Summers Co. Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.
Born July 16, 1959 at Hix he was a son of the late Otis L. Ward and Ellen Jane Berry Ward of Hix. Daniel was a lifelong resident of Summers Co., attended Chestnut Mountain Baptist Church, former employee of Pipestem State Park where he worked in golf course maintenance, avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, riding motorcycles, attending shooting matches, CB radios and looking for ginseng. A loving husband, father, brother, son who loved spending time with his family and friends, he cared more for others than he did for himself.
Preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Lee Roy Bragg, mother-in-law, Shirley Ann Akers and two sister-in-laws, Barbara Johnson and Katherine Acres.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 24 years, Sarah Ward of Hinton; one daughter, Heather Rose Ward of Hinton; one son, Daniel Ray ?DJ? Ward Jr. of Hinton; nine brothers and sisters, Phyllis Cales and husband Jimmie of Hix, Ethel Ward of Bragg, Lillie Gill and husband Doug of Tug Creek, Carol Bragg and husband Jim of Bragg, Virginia Morrison and husband Lonnie of Hix, George Ward of Hix, Barbara Gill and husband Jimmy of Madams Creek, Mitchell Ward and companion Debbie of Hix and Donald Ward of Forest Hill and companion Liz of Peterstown; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and great nephews.
Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 9, 2010 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Lawrence Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in the Cales Cemetery on Chestnut Mt. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral parlors.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
