David Adkins

March 12, 1919 — November 26, 2008

David B. Adkins, 89, of Meadow Creek died Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at the Pocahontas Memorial Hospital following a long illness. Born March 12, 1919 at Longbottom he was a son of the late William Fisher and Sally Ann Bragg Adkins. A lifelong resident of Summers Co. who was a member of the Meadow Creek Baptist Church, retired laborer with the C&O Railway. David had also worked for the Sewell Valley Railway and was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance Way. Preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Edith Adkins in 1991; one son, Clyde B. Adkins; one stepson, James L. Gravely; one brother, Pete Adkins; three sisters, Mary Hatfield, Delcie Deal and Lena Adkins. Survived by three daughters, Linda Berry and husband Gene of Rainelle, Rebecca Adkins of Elton and Goldie Gore of Hinton; one stepson, Earl â??Brudâ?? Gravely of Meadow Creek; one granddaughter whom he reared, Tammy Adkins of Meadow Creek; thirteen additional grandchildren, Bobby, Davey, Joey, Charlie, Sabrina and Thelma Adkins, Jackie, Eddie and Kevin Fox, Brenda and J.C. Gore and Ricky and Thomas Gravely; fourteen great grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Issac Adkins of Meadow Crook and Luther Adkins of Lockbridge and one special niece, Callie Hedrick of Christiansburg, VA. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastors Harry Allen and Otis Cales officiating. Burial will follow in the Adkins Cemetery at Elk Knob. Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. on Friday at the funeral parlors. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
