Delmar Mike Bennett, 88, of Hinton passed away Monday December 3, 2012.
Born January 24, 1924 at Madams Creek, Hinton, he was a son of the late Mike J. and Ethel Faye Waddell Bennett.
Delmar served in the U.S. Navy aboard USS Lenawee APA-195 in the Pacific during World War II where he ferried troops to the islands and brought wounded soldiers out. He was anchored alongside USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay when Japan boarded the Missouri for official surrender to General McArthur.
Delmar was retired from the Ohio State University as an electrician and attended Bellepoint Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Janice Bond Bennett; three brothers, Charles Atley Bennett, Nathan Donald Bennett and Arthur Glen Bennett; one sister, Doris Evelyn Hamrick.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Vida Marie Farley Bennett of Hinton; one son, Michael Jennings Bennett and wife Celene of Woodbridge, VA; three grandchildren, Amanda Renee Imhoff, Caitlin Su Bennett and Brian Michael Bennett; one great grandson, James Evan Imhoff; one brother, Dean Bennett and wife Janice of Hinton; one sister, Leola Wiseman of Talcott; three step-children, Dean Young, Betty Jane Lane and Billy Joe Young.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor David Board officiating. Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Gardens near Hinton. Friends may call at the funeral parlors from 6-9 P.M. on Wednesday.
