Delvin Elwell

November 2, 1929 — July 28, 2013

Rev. Delvin D. (D.D.) Elwell, 83 of Lewisburg formerly of Fayetteville and Hinton went home to be with the Lord July 28, 2013 at the Summers Nursing and Rehab following a long illness.
Born November 2, 1929 at Cunard, WV he was the son of the late John O. and Cora McClung Elwell. He was a devoted minister who pastored many churches in Southern WV, VA and KY until his retirement from full time ministry as the pastor of First Baptist Church of Hinton. D.D. was a 1948 graduate and a standout high school football player at Fayetteville High School, 1953 graduate of Bob Jones University, former member of the Summers Co. Board of Education, avid Mountaineer and Summers Co. Bobcats fan, he will be fondly remembered for his voice and musical talent which he used to bring glory to his Lord and Savior. He had the privilege to pray in the United States Senate. His love and passion was for the Lord and his ministry that God had blessed him with.
Although preceded in death by his parents and brother, John Robert Elwell, there are many left to cherish his memory. Those left behind include his loving and devoted wife of 61 ½ years, June M. Elwell of Lewisburg; four children, Pastor Delvin D. Elwell Jr. and wife Barbara of Shady Spring, Vickie Jo Carter and husband Bill of Front Royal, VA, Becky Lee Bates and husband Rev. Jim Bates of Greer, SC and Rev. Dale Elwell and wife Brantlee of Ronceverte; only nephew, Bobby Elwell and wife Sheila of Greenville, SC; thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Friday August 2, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Hinton with Rev. Doc Adkins and Rev. Gary Trout officiating. Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Gardens near Hinton. Friends may call from 6-9 pm Thursday, August 1, 2013 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors in Hinton.
Grandsons and family will serve as pallbearers.
