Dempsey Franklin Cyrus, 85, of Green Sulphur Springs went to be with the Lord, Thursday, December 12, 2013, at Raleigh General Hospital, following a long illness.
Born May 10, 1928, he was the son of the late Oscar Pearl and Mary Emma Cyrus.
Dempsey was a timber cutter as a young man, a lifelong farmer, a gifted musician, and worked for CSX Railroad as a brakeman and conductor for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen May Cyrus and a son, Dempsey Franklin Cyrus, Jr. He was also preceded in death by his brother, James Cyrus, and sisters, Maude Richmond, Dorothy Tincher, Norma Plumley, Ethel Wood, and Mary Hocum.
Those left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Nancy Hartwell and husband Jimmy of Green Sulphur Springs and Alma Hendershot and husband Clyde of Clarksburg, WV. Also left to cherish his memory are his two grandchildren; Joey Hartwell and wife Heather of Roanoke, VA and Kimberly Cole and husband Gary of Green Sulphur Springs, and three great-grandchildren, Chase Cole, Channing Cole, and Sophie Hartwell.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Bob Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in the Hicks-Cyrus Cemetery on Shepard?s Mountain. Friends may call from 6:00 ? 8:00 P.M. Friday, December 13, 2013.
