Dorothy Ann Lilly, 72, of Nimitz passed away on August 25, 2011 at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
Born July 30, 1939 Dorothy was raised in Covington, VA and in 1956 she graduated from Covington High School. She was an avid birdwatcher but most of all a loving mother, grandmother and wife.
She was a lifetime member of Christ United Methodist Church and after moving to West Virginia had attended Grace Baptist Church in Nimitz.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Lois Black Wright and a step-brother William Layne "Bill" Wright.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years Murvel "Jack" Lilly of Nimitz; three sons, Michael and his wife Kay of Nimitz, Gary and his wife Penelope of Germantown, MD and Tony and his wife Kim of Nimitz; one daughter, Laura Ann Lilly Cochran of Nimitz; four grandchildren, Adam, Brandon and Tyler Lilly and Erin Cochran; one sister, Susie and her husband Barry Boyd of Check, VA; her caretaker, Margaret Berry of Freezeland Mountain and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 2PM Sunday, August 28, 2011 at the Lilly-Crews Cemetery on Sandknob Rd in Nimitz with Pastor Bill Ballengee and Dallas Peyton officiating. There will be no visitation. Friends are invited to join with the family at the graveside on Sunday.
Serving as pallbearers will be Norman Pack, Larry Lilly, Steve Rollyson, Steve Goodwin, Thomas Ratcliffe and Barry Boyd. Honorary pallbearers will be her three grandsons.
In lieu of flowers donations of sympathy can be made to the First Century Bank of Hinton- 321 Temple Street Hinton, WV 25951 where a trust for the Ballard Christian School and the Pipestem Christian Academy will be established.
