Elizabeth S. â??Babeâ?? Martin, 77, of the Westwood Center, Bluefield, VA formerly of Hinton, died at 7:30 A.M. Monday, May 30, 2008 at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital at Roanoke, VA, following a long illness. Born April 27, 1931 at Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Henry Sheppard and Pearl Meadows Sheppard Cales. She resided in Hinton until her health no longer permitted. She worked as a Teacherâ??s Aide at Riverview Grade School in Hinton, later as a correctional officer at the West Virginia State Prison for Women at Pence Springs and finally at the Federal Reformatory for Women at Alderson, WV. She was of the Baptist Faith. Preceded in death by her husband, Russell W. Martin on March 12, 1988 and two aunts, Mary Esta and Amanda Mae Meadows, who reared her from childhood. Survived by four sons; Tom Martin and wife Hazel of Beaver, WV, Andy Victory and wife Karen of Milidore, WI, David Martin and wife Royce of Hinton and James Martin of Denver, CO, one daughter; Mary A. Martin of Bluefield, VA, seven grandchildren, Roberta Carter, Jackie Dickens and husband Shannon, Elizabeth Bright, Shella Blake and companion John, Ryan Martin and wife Wendy and Justin Martin and ten great grandchildren; James, Cassie, Mattie, Logan, Brianna, Coty, Bryce, Katelyn, Grace and Sierra. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Monday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Donald L. Hannah officiating. Burial will follow in the Elk Knob Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral parlors from noon until funeral time on Monday. Her grandson and friends will serve as pallbearers.
