Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Schroeder, 87, of Summers County, died Saturday, July 15, 2023 at the Summers County Continuous Care Center at Hilldale following a long illness.
Born October 27, 1935 at Hinton, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Basil and Martha Adeline Smith Yancey. Betty was a veteran of the United States Navy having served at Camp LeJeune, NC as an operating room technician. She worked for many years in the medical field in and around the St. Louis, MO area. In 1983 Betty retired and came back home to Summers County, where she lived for the remainder of her life. She was a member of the Martha Chapel United Methodist Church on Madam’s Creek.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ardus “Art” Schroeder, and infant brother Herbert, a brother Harold Yancey, four sisters; Helen McEvoy, Vera Johnson, Wilma Surber and Lola Madge Yancey, and one son-in-law Charles “Chuck” Short.
Survived by one son, Geoffrey Gardisky of Hollister, MO, two daughters, Debra Short of Branson West, MO and Patti Abeln and husband Mike of Lee’s Summit, MO, two sisters, Janet Lilly and husband Damon of Pipestem and Nancy Britt of Eagle Rock, VA. Eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive.
Graveside service and burial will be held 12:00 pm Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Restwood Memorial Gardens near Hinton with Pastors Ed Dolphin and Robbie Merritt officiating. Friends may call from 10:30 am until 11:30 am at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors on Thursday prior to the graveside service.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
