Ellen Jane Berry Ward, 85, of Chestnut Mountain went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 16, 2019, 9:50 P.M. at Summers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
Born February 1, 1934 at Longbottom she was a daughter of the late Sampson and Viola Plumley Berry.
Ellen was a member of Chestnut Mountain Baptist Church. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening and collecting arrowheads. Ellen was a very special lady, she loved everyone she met. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Ellen was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Otis Ward; one daughter, Phyllis Cales; one son, Daniel Ward; three sisters; seven brothers; one son in law, Lee Roy Bragg and one daughter in law, Sarah Ward.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Ethel Ward of Bragg, Lillie Gill and husband Doug of Tug Creek, Carol Bragg and husband Jim of Bragg, Virginia Morrison and husband Lonnie of Chestnut Mountain, George Ward of Chestnut Mountain, Barbara Gill and husband James of Madams Creek, Mitchell Ward and companion Debbie of Chestnut Mountain, Donald Ward and wife Terri of Forest Hill; one son in law, Jimmie Cales; five granddaughters; five grandsons; two great granddaughters; six great grandsons; two step granddaughters; one step grandson; one step great granddaughter and three step great grandson.
Private services and burial were held Monday, October 21, 2019 with Pastor Cecil Cox officiating.
