Ethel Delphia Sheppard Easter, 97, died at 1:20 a.m. Friday, August 24, 2012 at her home following a stroke.
She was born December 6, 1914 at the family home on James St. in Hinton to the late Lonnie Columbus and Martha Hamm Sheppard. Mrs. Easter was the oldest member of the Clayton Baptist Church and also held the longest membership of anyone at the time of her death. A graduate of Talcott High School class of 1936 she provided child care for many years for several children in the Hinton area and she treated each child as if they were her own.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Wesley Easter in 1946; a daughter, Beatrice Earhart; three infant siblings, Bertie and Bertha Sheppard who were twins and Dana Sheppard; a sister, Dorothy Swepston and husband Roy; a brother, Lonzo Sheppard and wife Radia Lou; son-in-law, Ernest B. Adkins and former son-in-law, Michael W. Stricker.
Survivors include her daughters, Evelyn Jane Stricker of Old Saybrook, CT and Paulett Faye Adkins of Hinton; a granddaughter she raised, Colett Xan Easter of Wytheville, VA; seven grandchildren, Pamela Atwood and husband Bill of Westbrook, CT, Michael Stricker and wife Kelly of Ledyard, CT, Darin Stricker and wife Patty of East Haddam, CT, Dannett Rivers and husband Andy of New Britain, CT, Melissa McKee and husband Randy of Cape Coral, FL, Betsy Earhart of Pulaski, VA and Stephen Earhart and wife April of Pulaski, VA; fourteen great grandchildren, two step-great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Stephen Earhart of Pulaski, VA and a sister-in-law, Jewell Easter Dunn of Mt. City, TN and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 27, 2012 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Clayton Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral parlors.
Billy Ray Mann, David ?Chunk? Akers, James ?Pete? Akers, James Easter, Dwight Easter and Darin Stricker will serve as pallbearers.
