Francis H. Surber, 91, of Harrisonburg, VA, formerly of Hinton, died 1:10AM Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Harrisonburg, VA following a long illness.
Born March 9, 1920 at Hinton, he was a son of the late Charles and Champie Surber who lived the early part of his life in Hinton.
Francis was an Army Veteran of WWII who retired from C&O Railroad. During his employment he worked as a ticket agent at ?The Greenbrier Hotel? and later at the Computer Center in Baltimore, MD. He was a member of the Spring Creek Church of the Nazerene in Harrisonburg and a former member of the Central Baptist Church in Hinton.
Preceded in death by one son, Steve Surber; two sisters, Mary Lucas and Margie Waddell and one brother, Chuck Surber. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survived by his wife of 61 years, Wilma Yancey Surber at home; one daughter, Sue Noel and husband Jim of Harrisonburg, VA; two granddaughters, Kim and Terri; one grandson, Scott and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Saturday, August 13, 2011 and the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Gardens at Hinton. Friends may call at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors from 6-8PM Friday. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
