Fred Chapman, 88, of Pence Springs formerly of Blackberry City, Mingo Co. died December 29, 2009 at Summers Nursing and Rehab following a long illness.
Born August 17, 1921 at Blackberry City he was a son of the late Lon and Retha Mullins Chapman. A Veteran of the United States Army, Fred served his country during World War II, retired coal miner from Sprouse Creek Processing with 55 years of service. His greatest joy was spending time with friends and family.
Preceded in death by two sons, Terry Fred Chapman and Jeff Chapman; one daughter, Angel Chapman; two brothers, Broadus Chapman and Lon Chapman Jr.; and one sister, Kathleen Thompson.
Survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Chapman of Pence Springs; three daughters, Carmel Hatfield and husband Sid of Bolt, Barbara Green and husband Ralph of Picqua, OH and Patsy Moore and husband Larry of Morehead City, NC; eight sons, Fred Chapman Jr. of Willowick, OH, Robert Chapman of Louisville, KY, Carl Chapman and wife Rhonda of Crouse, NC, Fred Chapman III and wife Bonnie of Sherrills Ford, NC, Brian Chapman of Statesville, NC, Adam Chapman and wife Melissa of Elyria, OH, Michael Chapman of Pence Springs and Carl Chapman Jr. and wife Kae of Pence Springs; twenty-five grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, eleven great-great grandchildren and one sister, Evelyn Stafford of Blackberry City, WV.
Graveside services and burial will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 1, 2009 at Mountain View Memory Gardens, Williamson, WV with the Rev. Chris Casey officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Thursday, December 31, 2009 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors in Hinton.
