On June 26, 2013, after a lengthy illness, Freeman Wiley Holder of Jacksonville, Florida passed away.
Freeman who was originally from Columbia, Tennessee, was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Wiley Holder (1985), and his mother, Myrtle Belle Carpenter Holder (2001). He was the grandson of the late J.D. Holder and his wife, Sallie Connell and J.H. Carpenter and his wife, Inez Underwood. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Reva Kay Coleman Holder, a brother William Gordon Holder, of Arlington, Virginia, a sister, Sally Belle Moore (Howard), a nephew, Jeremy Haywood, (Kay), a niece, Angela Haywood, an uncle, Eugene Carpenter (Evelyn), three great nephews and three great nieces, all of Columbia, Tennessee; an aunt, Dorothy Thomason, of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, an uncle Walter Holder of Remlap, Alabama; Mother-in-law, Mildred G. Brinegar Coleman, Sister-in-law, Dr. Sarah Lee Coleman Brown (Roger), all of Hinton, West Virginia, and numerous cousins throughout the United States.
Freeman, known affectionately by family and friends as ?Fuzz,? received his elementary education in Columbia, Tennessee, and in 1958, he graduated from Central High School where he attained the title of King of Basketball. After high school, he attended Columbia Military Academy, Columbia, Tennessee, and in 1961, he relocated to Washington D.C.
He worked as an electrician in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, and was certified as an electrical contractor in Montgomery County, Maryland, and in Virginia.
For health reasons, in 1978, Freeman and his wife relocated to Florida, and in 1981, they moved to Jacksonville, where he resided at the time of his death.
Freeman was a strong willed but compassionate, he was a disciplinarian but with a keen sense of humor. He was always cheerful and had a smile for everyone he met. Freeman had his priorities straight. He loved God, his family and friends, all nature?s critters, Irish Settlers and convertibles.
He was a Christian, and he worshipped with fellow Christians at the South Jacksonville Church of Christ at 2209 Parental Home Road, Jacksonville, Florida.
Freeman was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at the Shockley Hill Church of Christ Cemetery at Tug Creek. Friends may gather at the cemetery at 12:30.
Tom Rose, Claude Rose, Allen Akers, Barry Akers, Gary Sears, Grayson Brinegar, Buster Brown and Alonzo Brown will serve as pallbearers.
