Garnet Adkins

Garnet Vernon Adkins, 75, of Beckley passed away May 5, 2013 at Bowers Hospice House following a brief battle with cancer.
Born October 31, 1937 at Sandstone, he was a son of the late Forest Wesley Adkins and Madeline Meadows Adkins.
Mr. Adkins served in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1961. He attended Hinton High School and graduated from the Advanced Auto Diesel College in Nashville, TN in 1962. He was employed with Barrack?s in Beckley from 1963 to 1968 and was a mechanic for the WV State Police, Beckley Detachment retiring after 26 years of service.
Mr. Adkins was a member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with family and friends.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant sister, Barbara Ann Adkins and one brother, Charles Wesley Adkins.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 56 years, Drema L. Adkins; one son, Randy W. Adkins of Beckley; six brothers, Warren Adkins and wife Lisa of Winchester, VA, Gary Adkins of Brooks, Farrell Adkins and wife Susie of McLeansville, NC, Robert Adkins and wife Roberta of Thurman, OH, Stephen Adkins and wife Denise of Burlington, NC and Acie Ayers and wife Phyllis of Barksdale; two sisters, Carol Thompson of Gibsonville, NC and Wanda Ball and husband Buddy of Talcott; one sister in law, Lou Adkins of Beckley as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors with Pastor Gary Adkins officiating. Friends may call from noon until time of services at the funeral parlors. Burial will follow in the Fox Cemetery at Brooks.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Bowers Hospice House at P.O. Box 1472, Beckley, WV 25802.
Arrangements are by the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors of Hinton.
