Gary Richmond

Gary Wayne Richmond, 59, of Chestnut Mountain passed away at Duke University Hospital on September 4, 2015 following a courageous battle with esophageal cancer.
Born January 5, 1956 at Hinton Hospital, he was the seventh child of the late Homer and Mattie Ward Richmond.
Gary worked in carpentry and the roofing business. He attended Mountain State University majoring in science and geography, He also completed four years of bible study. He enjoyed raising chickens, hunting, finding arrowheads, ginsenging, and was an avid outdoorsman. He dearly loved his family and spending time with them. He loved sunsets on Chestnut Mountain and astronomy.
Besides his parents, those waiting in Heaven to welcome Gary home were two brothers, Jeddy and Denny (Rookie) Richmond; nephew, Gary Nelson; and two sister in laws, Roberta Gross Richmond and Tracy Sawyer.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 33 years, Karen Richmond; four daughters, Felisha Hartwell and husband Rodney, Samantha Wills and husband Kevin; Kristie Richmond and companion Thirl Adkins, and Alexis Richmond at home; One son, Russell Bennett of Beckley, those whom thought of him as dad, Chris Young and Jamie Jackson; three brothers, Eddie Richmond, Scotty Richmond, Shawn Richmond all of Hinton; three sisters, Shirley Sharp of Pikeville, KY, Judy Markogiannakis and husband Orestis of Richmond VA, and Joyce (Cookie) of Sandstone; three grandchildren, Emily Hartwell, Nathan and Megan Wills; mother in law, Mamie Adkins, Sister in Law Glenna Cook and Companion Robert Dick, Brother in Law Robert Bennett and wife Vivian and several nieces and nephews who adored him. The family would like to thank Russell Martin for helping with the care as well as everyone who donated money, prayed, sent food, or helped in any way.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Richmond- McKeown Family Cemetery with Pastor Benny Allen officiating. At his request, there will be no visitation. Friends and family may gather at the cemetery at 10:30 AM.
Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
