James E. ?Gene? Bowling, 83, of Nimitz went home to be with his Lord January 4, 2011 following a long illness.
Born May 19, 1927 at Ellison Ridge he was the son of the late George Alvis and Minnie Ada Lilly Bowling. A member of the Nimitz Missionary Baptist Church, the Hinton Masonic Lodge #62 A.F. & A.M., retired conductor/yardmaster for the C&O Railway and CSX Corp., member of United Transportation Union Local #118, a Veteran of the United States Marine Corp. having served his country during World War II, worked in the construction of the Bluestone Dam and owner and operator of Bluestone River Limousin Farm where he raised registered limousin cattle for many years.
Preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Hilton Bowling; two infant daughters, Sherrow Jane and Anna Marie Bowling; two brothers, Otis and Vaughn V. Bowling and three sisters, Gladys A. Meadows, Eden Cox and Cloie Bowling.
Survived by three sons, J.P. Bowling and wife Stephanie of Jumping Branch, David Bowling and wife Debbie of Nimitz and John Bowling and wife Joy of Jumping Branch; six grandchildren, Brian Bowling of Nimitz, Craig Bowling and wife Stephanie of Shady Spring, Crissy Oxford and husband Phillip of Nimitz, Anthony Bowling of Jumping Branch and Zachary and Zoey Bowling of Jumping Branch; two great grandchildren, Caynan Bowling of Jumping Branch and Natalee Bowling of Hilldale; one brother, George A. Bowling of Conroe, TX and one sister, Ruth Kegley of Princeton and a long time friend and farm hand, Charles Moten.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2011 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastors Bill Fox and Donald L. Hannah officiating. Burial will follow in the Lilly-Crews Cemetery at Nimitz. Friends may call from 5:30 till 9:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral parlors.
Brian, Craig, Anthony and Zachary Bowling, Phillip Oxford, Wallace McGraw, Charles Moten, Melvin Plumley, Melvin Turner, Charlie Cales, Todd Dobbins and Hobert Adkins will serve as pallbearers.
