George Marion Givens Jr., 92, of Jumping Branch went home to be with the Lord Wednesday May 18, 2016 at the Rockin Chair Care Facility following a long illness.
Born April 26, 1924 he was the son of the late George Marion Givens Sr. and Thelma Nabors Givens Harvey. A coal miner until his retirement from Valley Camp Coal Company, Veteran of the United States Marine Corp. having served his country during WWII in the Pacific Theatre and a member and deacon of Bluestone Baptist Church where he participated in the choir as long as his health permitted. George enjoyed fishing, camping, the outdoors and spending time with his family and friends.
Preceded in death by his wife, Emma Lee Givens; infant son, James Givens, one sister, Betty Bruce and one brother, Jack Givens.
Those left to cherish his memory include, one daughter, Donna Givens Baker and husband Shirley Dale of Jumping Branch; one son, George M. Givens III and wife Patricia of Belle; three grandchildren, John Mullins and wife Christina of Charleston, George M. Givens IV of Belle and Jennifer Kozak and husband Trever of Charleston; four great grandchildren, Mike Levandowski, Alexandra Mullins, Tristan Givens and Hunter Kozak and two great great grandchildren, Isaiah and Lucas Levandowski.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday May 21, 2016 at Bluestone Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Fox officiating. Family and friends may call from 9:30 am until service time on Saturday at the church. At his request following the services the body will be cremated.
Arrangements are by the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors of Hinton.
