LEWISBURG, WV: Gertrude Vera Richmond McKinney, age 94, died Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the Greenbrier Manor, in Fairlea, West Virginia where Mrs. McKinney has resided for the past year and a half. Gertrude was just days shy of reaching her 95th birthday when the Lord called her home.
Born June 25, 1918 at Judson, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Thomas Richmond and Elizabeth Boone Richmond.
Mrs. McKinney dedicated her life to caring for others. She was a caregiver for numerous family members throughout her lifetime. She worked briefly at the Hinton Hospital, Hinton, WV and G.C. Murphy, Beckley, WV. She spent many years living in Beaver, WV prior to moving to Hinton in the nineties and then Lewisburg in 2007.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of forty-eight years, Deward A. McKinney; sisters, Naomi Richmond Martin and Ocie D. Richmond; brothers, Harmon D. Richmond, Emmett O. Richmond, Robert J. Richmond, Lloyd L. Richmond, Othar Hobert Richmond, Forest Owen Richmond and Leonard Curtis Richmond.
Gertrude is survived by one brother, Carrington D. Richmond of Lewisburg/Clayton, WV; step-granddaughters, Glenda Queen and husband Mike, Terah Peterson and husband Bill, both of Norfolk, VA; Caregivers: (Nephew), Eddie and Nancy Richmond of Lewisburg; nieces, Ruth Stafford and husband H.C. of East Bank, WV, Roberta Meador of Roanoke, VA, Iona ?Jinx? Shawver of Mansfield, OH; nephews, Rodney Richmond and wife Arlis of Melbourne, FL and Harold Richmond and wife Ann of Beckley, WV; step-great grandchildren, Megan and Josh Queen, Teddy, Glen and Rebecca Peterson and several great great grandchildren.
Services will be at 3:00 PM Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors in Hinton with Pastor Roger Persinger officiating. Burial will follow at the Elk Knob Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2:00 PM until time of services at the funeral parlors.
Pallbearers will be Mike Falls, Bradley Falls, Mike Queen, Josh Queen, Bill Peterson and Richard Hypes.
