Gladys Virginia Martin, 90, of Forest Hill, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at Summers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
Born January 20, 1926 at Forest Hill she was a daughter of the late Dorse L. and Ethel Oberling Thompson.
Gladys was a faithful member of Roles Chapel Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Summers County who enjoyed cooking and was famous for her "peanut butter cake", camping, attending church functions and spending time with family and friends.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Martin; one daughter, Virginia Martin; four brothers, Raymond Thompson, Bunn Thompson, Ulysses Thompson, Pence Thompson and five sisters, Minnie Young, Betty Burdette, Kathryn Lilly, Clara Thompson and Cleo Miller.
Those left to cherish her memory include her favorite son, Robert Martin and wife Ann, James Martin and wife Edwina, Calvin Martin and wife Debbie, Ralph Martin and wife Shelby, Jack Martin and wife Lisa; eight grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and one sister, Thelma Brogan.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June18, 2016 at Roles Chapel Baptist Church with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Roles Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Friday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors and at the church one hour prior to services.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and care given to their mother from Dr. Chaabra and Summers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Staff.
