Grant Carvil Petitt, 80 of Hinton died 5:15P.M. Friday, June 11, 2010 in Bowers Hospice House, Beckley.
Born March 2, 1930 in Ferndale he was the son of the late Denver Voil and Birdie Ann Burdette Petitt. A member of the Clayton Baptist Church, Grant lived the last 14 years in Summers Co. after retiring from the Raleigh Co. Board of Education. He served 4 years with the United State Marine Corp where he served his country in the Korean Conflict from 1952-1953. He worked at Piston Coal Co., City of Beckley, Corey Candy Co. and Higgins Grocery.
Preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Billie Daphine Daniel Petitt and one brother, Denver C. Petitt.
Survived by his son with whom he made his home for the last six years, Grant Petitt Jr. and wife Kathy; two grandsons, Phillip Grant Petitt and wife Gayanne of Maysville, GA and Andrew Jason Petitt and wife Karen of Princeton; two great grandsons, Adam Grant and Ryan Seth Petitt both of Maysville, GA; two brothers, Gene Pettitt of Danese and Carl Petitt and wife Lorene of Danese; three sisters, Gracie Smith of Ansted, Vivian Sweeney Atwood of Norris, TN and Frances Conner of Mabscott.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 14, 2010 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with his son Grant Petitt Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Beckley. Friends may call from 6-9 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral parlors.
Phillip Petitt, Andrew Petitt, Jim Allen, Sean Green, Franklin Sweeney, Mike Petitt, Robert Daniel and Vincent Daniel will serve as pallbearers.
