Harry William "Bill" Bennett, 83, of Hinton passed peacefully into the loving arms of his Savior Monday, September 1, 2011 at his home following a long illness.
Born July 7, 1928 in Hinton he was the son of the late Lake and Flora Gloss Bennett.
He was a 1946 graduate of Hinton High School and went on to serve in the US Army and National Guard. After his military service he worked as a boilermaker and later as a brakeman for C&O Railroad. During periods of layoff from the railroad he managed the Texaco and Sunoco service stations in Hinton. He shared a love for hunting and was an avid fisherman. Bill was a longtime member of Bellepoint Baptist Church and above all was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Shawn Bennett and a special first cousin, Denzil Bennett.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Doris Jean Bennett, one son William Bennett and wife Liz of Athens, WV; two daughters, Linda Kushnir and husband Wally of Sunbury, OH and Patty Hensley and husband Don of Forest Hill, MD; six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and another on the way; special first cousin, Porter Bennett and numerous other cousins.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, September 5, 2011 at the Bellepoint Baptist Church with Pastors David Board and Don Hannah officiating. Burial will follow at Restwood Memorial Gardens near Hinton. Friends may call at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors from 6-9 PM Sunday.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
