Harry Pilkington

May 14, 1919 — May 9, 2009

Harry Pilkington, 89 of Hinton went home to be with his Lord and Savior , Saturday morning, May 9, 2009 at his home following a long illness. Born May 14, 1919 at Hespeler, Ontario Canada, he was a son of the late George and Florence Singleton Pilkington. Harry served in the Royal Canadian Medical Corp from 1942-1946 earning the rank of Sergeant. He proudly assisted the returning wounded from Europe during WWII. He attended Emmaus Bible School from 1947-1950, where he met his wife Joan Leah, they married on June 10, 1950 in Toronto, Canada and served the Lord together for 56 years, before her death in 2006. They moved to Allen Junction, WV in 1951 and served the Lord in the Public Schools with Harry teaching Bible Class, as well as ministering at Welton and Otsego Bible Chapels. The Lord led Harry and Joan along with two young daughters to come to Hinton in 1962 where they served the Lord faithfully in Camps, Conferences, Bible Schools and at the Riverview Chapel till the Lord called them home to Heaven. Another son and daughter came along over the next few years, causing much joy in his family. A loving, devoted and attentive husband who gently cared for his wife during her long illness before her death and who was also a wise and patient father and grandfather. Being adventurous and fun loving he treated his family to numerous stories, trips, instruction and guidance through the years but his greatest lessons were taught through his life of example. He personified patience, tolerance, love of fellow man and love of his Lord Jesus Christ with his goal in life to always please and serve him. He enjoyed the outdoors, music, nature, travel, reading and wood-working in addition to his service to others. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Pilkington on June 6, 2006, one son, Stephen Pilkington on June 11, 2006, four brothers, Albert, William, Eric and Charles and one sister, Mary. Survived by three daughters, Mary Rutherford and husband Jonathan of St. John, New Brunswick, Elizabeth Sipala and husband Mike of Chestertown, MD and Joy Williams and husband Jimmy of Hinton; seven grandchildren, Jessica, Robin and Jacob Rutherford of St. John, New Brunswick, Andrew Sipala of Chestertown, MD, Joseph Hoffman, T.J. and Stephanie Williams all of Hinton; one sister, Ruth Rennie of Ontario, Canada; numerous nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters in Christ.
