Herbert L. Roope, 80, of 3019 New River Rd., Hinton, died at 6:18 P.M. Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at the Raleigh General Hospital at Beckley, following a long illness. Born, August 2, 1925 in McDowell Co., he was the son of the late Billy Byrd and Virginia Iris Hundley Roope. Mr. Roope was a retired mechanic and car salesman, he was an Army Veteran of WWII and a recipient of the Bronze Star with Meritorious Service. Herb was a people person, he never met a stranger. Preceded in death by one sister, Martha Roope Becker and a cousin that was reared as a brother, Lewis Pierce. Survived by his wife, Justine â??Teenyâ?? Bennett Roope, two sons, Randy Roope of Welch and Greg Roope and wife Carla of Elbert, six daughters, Ginger Radford and husband John of Blacksburg, VA, Mary Dawn Lockhart and husband Wallace of Welch, Kim Grubb of Welch, Carmen Hamm and husband Donnie of Hinton, Pam Fox Johnson and husband Paul of Princeton and Debbi Fox Rash and husband Marty of Nashville, TN, fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel in Hinton with Bishop Cecil Welch officiating. Burial will follow in the Adkins Cemetery near Sandstone Falls. Friends may call at the funeral parlors from 6-8 P.M. Saturday. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
