Hobert Leslie Phillips Sr., 79, of Pipestem passed away Saturday June 13, 2015 at Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.
Born October 21, 1935 in Summers County he was a son of the late Barrett and Lottie Wills Phillips.
Hobert was a retired custodian for the Summers County Board of Education. He helped with the construction of the Pipestem State Park entrance sign as well as had worked in maintenance for Bluestone State Park. He was a former employee of Keaton's Cleaner's in Hinton and a former truck driver for Atlas Transfer in Hinton. Hobert enjoyed rabbit hunting as long as health permitted, trading guns, cars, or anything that could be traded, listening to his beloved wife sing and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, William "Bill" Phillips and Virgil Phillips and four sisters, Lottie Yancey, Gladys Lemons, Lakie Gill and Nanny Graham.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 56 years, Margaret Sue Rose Phillips at home; four children, Hobert Phillips Jr. and wife Wanda of Pipestem, Peggy Ward and husband Jimmy of Pipestem, Rocky Phillips and wife Leisha of Princeton and Patty Lyon and husband Jeff of Pipestem; seven grandchildren, Rhonda Dillon and husband Matt of Beckley, Stephanie Morgan and husband Seth of Princeton, Chelsea Ward and fiance Justin Anderson of Princeton, John Ward and wife Angel of True, Taylor Phillips of Princeton and Abby and Dalton Walker of Princeton; five great grandchildren, Baustin Morgan and Paisley Morgan both of Princeton, Gideon and Jonah Dillon of Beckley and Darien Ward of True; one brother, John Phillips of NC and one sister, Sylvia Gray of Beckley. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
At Hobert's request there will be no services and the body has been cremated.
