Homer Richmond

March 4, 1922 — March 21, 2008

Homer E. Richmond, 86, of Chestnut Mt., Hinton, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, March 21, 2008 at the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital at Beckley. Born March 4, 1922 at Sandstone, he was the son of the late William Harrison and Nora Ward Richmond. At the age of 18 he joined the U.S. Army and was sent to St. Lo France. During his service to his country, he was wounded, received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Following his military service he returned to Summers Co. where he made his living farming and in the timber business. He was of the Baptist Faith. Preceded in death by one son, Jeddy E. Richmond and one grandson Gary Nelson Richmond.Survived by his wife of 60 years, Mattie Ward Richmond, three daughters; Shirley R. Sharp and Husband George, Judy Marcoyiannakis and husband Orestis and Joyce Richmond, five sons; Eddie Richmond, Denny Richmond, Gary Richmond and wife Karen, Scottie J. Richmond and wife Wendy and Shawn J. Richmond, fourteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, three sisters; Lucy Boone, Leona Boone and Gloria K. Kelley and one brother, Hobert Richmond and wife Bernice. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel in Hinton with Pastors Benny Allen and Elwood Cales officiating. Burial will follow in the Bragg Family Cemetery at Hix. Friends may call at the funeral parlors from 6-9 P.M. on Sunday. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
