Howard William ?Uncle Bill? Underwood, 84, of Jumping Branch died Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Summers Co. ARH following a long illness.
Born February 18, 1926 at Garden Ground, WV he was a son of the late Rufus and Estie Wright Underwood. A retired coal miner, veteran of the United States Navy having served his country during World War II, avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, learning about wildlife and then passing that knowledge along to others. He loved family, friends, neighbors and was always willing to lend a helping hand to all those in need, but he will always be remembered for instructing young boys on how to hunt, fish and instilling the traits within them to become fine men.
Preceded in death by four sisters and seven brothers.
Survived by one brother, Roland Underwood and wife Sylvia of Mt. View; special nephew, Arnyll Underwood of Goldsboro, NC and numerous other nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Elder Tommy Pack officiating. Burial will follow in the Underwood Cemetery at Mt. View. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral parlors.
Walter Vest, Jerry Vest, Robie Bassett, Albert Lowe, Robert Underwood and D.J. Pettry will serve as pallbearers.
Roy Lowe, Glen Bragg, Herman Pack and Dale Pettry will serve as honorary pallbearers.
