Iona Harris Ryan, 88, of Greenbrier Drive in Hinton died Monday, November 5, 2018 at home. Born August 18, 1930, Iona was the daughter of the late J. Arnold and Glenna Lacy Harris.
Iona served as secretary to six pastors at the First Baptist Church, where she was an active member for many years. In addition to her job as secretary, Iona was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class, a Deaconess, AWANA leader and choir member. Iona also served as a counselor at Greenbrier Baptist Youth Camp for over 30 years. She was a long-time member of the Hinton/Summers County Bobcat Boosters and a super-fan and loyal follower of the Lady Bobcats.
In addition to her parents, Iona was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years T.L. "Punk" Ryan; one son Arnold Willis Ryan and one brother Edwin Ray Harris.
Survivors include two sons, Melvin & wife Gail Ryan of Griffith Creek and Wayne & wife Robin Ryan of Parkersburg; one daughter-in-law Karen Ryan of Bellepoint; seven grandchildren, Melinda Ryan Swagger & husband Greg, Lee Ryan, A.W. Ryan & wife Alecia, Dr. Rebecca Ryan & husband Jason Vickers, Beth Ryan, Lindsay Ryan and Matt Ryan; three great grandchildren, Hunter Lee Swagger, Dean Ryan and Aden Ryan; one brother Hugh Harris of Alderson.
A celebration of Iona's life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Hinton on Saturday, November 17 at 11 am with Rev. Jon Elardo officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the church one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Greenbrier Baptist Youth Camp. Checks made to the camp should be mailed to 408 Greenbrier Drive, Hinton, WV 25951.
