Curtis Edgar ?Jackie? Adkins, 69, of Hinton died July 24, 2011 at Raleigh General Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born July 27, 1941 at Sandstone he was a son of the late Burman Greene and Emma Jane Bennett Adkins.
He was a lifelong resident of Summers County and of the Baptist Faith. During his life he worked as a logger, tree trimmer, and in carpentry. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and being outdoors.
Preceded in death by three sisters; Patsy J. Gill, Madlean Adkins, and Pansy Adkins, three brothers; Clyde Bennett, Buster Adkins, Benjamin (Ben ) Adkins, and three step children; Jamie Gill, David Terry, Chris Kellar.
Survived by his wife Evelyn Adkins of Hinton, three sons; Curtis Adkins Jr., Roy Adkins and wife Andrea, and Ronald Adkins of Hinton, one daughter; Mona Lisa Gill and husband Billy Gill, three step sons; Timothy Gill and companion Carolyn Raines of Spanishburg WV, Christopher Gill of Indiana, Michael Gill and wife Sherri of Hinton WV, one step daughter; Vicky Thompson and husband Mark of Camp Creek WV, six grandchildren; Shana Lammon, Garry Wheeler, Kaitlyn Thomas, Jason Thomas, Nikki Gill, Greggory Gill, six step grandchildren; David Lee Terry, Jessica Williams, Isabella Kellar, Kendra Wheeler, Mandy Ward, Kendall Brown, two great grandchildren; Chloe and Trinity Lammon, two sisters; Gladys Upton of Hinton and Mojean Fox of Tug Creek, friend Elizabeth Myrtle ?Libby? Terry of Hinton, special nephew Roy Doc Adkins and several nieces and nephews .
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday July 28, 2011 at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. At Jackies request his body will be cremated following the service. Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday at the Funeral Parlor.
